Talk
Nature Heals | Trevor Parsons
23 September 2024, 12:00noon - 1:00pm
Alice Ellen Cooper Dean Community Space
‘We all do need nature in our lives, it’s as simple as that. Nature Heals.’ – Trevor Parsons
Trevor Parsons is a local photographer with an amazing story to tell about the healing power of photography and nature. In this talk Trevor will explore his remarkable journey from his childhood discovery of the wonders of photography, through his mental health issues, to his most recent talks at the Natural History Museum.
Since his Nature Heals exhibition at Dorset Museum & Art Gallery in 2023, Trevor has created a wealth of new photography that he will share with us at the talk. The images demonstrate a skill for capturing scenes of animals and birds that can touch the human heart. He is equally passionate about sharing his story of how nature and photography helped him through mental illness and says:
‘When I was within nature, all the dark thoughts that were rushing around in my head faded slightly, especially when I was taking a photo – I was focusing on that one moment in time and it gave me some much-need headspace. This is when I realised how powerful nature and photography is as a self-help therapy tool. Since then, I’ve been promoting its benefits to try and help others going through mental illness now I’ve found a passion and motivation I never knew I had before.’
